Wreck it Ralph

SF: I really enjoyed this movie. It is another in a long line of fun animation that pleases both adults and children. There were many in jokes that were great and the Oreo bit was so funny! It felt almost Pixar good and that is a mighty compliment from me. Go and see if you want light hearted fun. 7/10

50 Eggs: I have been waiting for this film ever since 'Reboot' first aired on CITV back in the day. Video game culture is a largely untapped source in movies, and Wreck it Ralph had a real chance to get in there first and become a cult classic. It's partially successful. There are lots of in-jokes, winks and nods, all laid over a fairly strong plot. But for me it didnt go far enough, and half way through it seemed to become confused as to its target audience....is it the 30 somethings who grew up with these games, or the 8 year olds who are tagging along with them? For me this fell between the two stools and is poorer for it. Still pretty darn good though. 7.5/10

DonkeyB: I have trouble believing that anyone younger than 30 is going to get as much enjoyment from this film as we did, it relies quite heavily on an appreciation of 80s computer games for laughs. I also have vivid memories of being a 9 year old in class 7 at primary school, and writing a story in creative writing about a kid who gets sucked into a computer game and being amazed that another kid had written a story about exactly the same thing completely independently. As a story it just isn't very original. As ever these days the short before the main feature outshone the main attraction. 6/10

Project Jen- The Good Girl

A red letter day in Project Jen; for the first time ever, two reviews in one day.

I felt so awful after seeing The Bounty Hunter I had to eat chicken soup and watch The Good Girl. I feel as your reviewer (I watch these so you don't have to), I deserve special credit because The Good Girl was only rescued from its country retreat (my parents' attic) yesterday and made the long journey from storage to DVD rack along with The Complete West Wing and The Complete Quantum Leap.

For those reader who do not know me already, I must point out I would have rather watched any episodes of either of those fine television shows than any Jennifer Aniston movie.

That being said, I did already own The Good Girl before Project Jen was even conceived.
This is definitely Jennifer Aniston's best performance, she is entirely believable.
While the film isn't laugh-out-loud-funny, it does have a dose of black humour to it. Zooey Deschanel's character who I didn't remember at all is also funny.

This is the first time I have been able to write this since I started Project Jen; if you haven't seen this I think you should see it, rent it.

We need to talk about Kevin

SF: Firstly must pretend I haven't read the book. The performances were nothing short of captivating. The pace and direction are perfect and even though I felt as if a year had passed - literally the film achieves everything it sets out to do. Not one you can really enjoy as such but a great movie nonetheless. 8/10

50 Eggs: The book is brilliantly harrowing but its format really doesn't lend itself to a screenplay, so the fact that this adaptation is largely successful is admirable. As good as it could have been, and that's a compliment. 8.5/10

DonkeyB: Deeply troubling, which I think is the point. Great use of music and colour palette. 9/10
