X-Men - Days of the Future Past

SF: This righted every wrong in all the X related movies for the past 10 years. Being a Marvel devotee, my love has been tested, again and again. Five minuets into this and all I can say is - you had me at Warpath. This is a fantastic blend of action, story telling, drama and humor. The effects are rather impressive too. Did it divert a lot from the original comic yes, but it remained tantalizingly good.  I've already been to see it twice and the post credit scene has me waiting eagerly for the next one. As there is nothing I can really fault...
10/10

50Eggs: I still remember watching the X-Men cartoon doing it's own version of 'Future Past' way back when I was a sweaty teenager. It was a great script then and it still is now, but for some reason I didn't love this as much as I loved the prequel 'First Class'. But considering I gave that 9/10, it's not really a criticism. This is another fine addition to the X-Men series and whets the appetite for the one I've been waiting for for 20 years...X-Men Apocalypse. 8/10

DonkeyB: I rather enjoyed this, I think I sort of understood the ludicrously unoriginal time travelling plot! Read SF's review if you're a comic book adaptation person because she is in a much better to judge on that aspect, but as someone who has universally hated every single one of the X-men films, and actually looked forward to Saturday morning swimming lessons when they clashed with the cartoon all I can say is that even I was pleasantly surprised. Its about as good as Winter's Soldier 7.5/10

Prometheus

SF: I had high expectations for Prometheus. Fortunately it does complement the previous Alien movies whilst carving its own ground. It is however lacking that spark and becomes a bit predictable. I still enjoyed most of it. Noomi Rapace was a fair lead but a special mention is deserved by Michael Fassbender for making David more than just sinister, for me he was the most interesting character carried the film. My main critique is there wasn't any tension which is a real let down. Ridley Scott not totally back on form but almost. 7/10

50 Eggs: This quasi prequel/reboot (Requel? Preboot?) put me in mind of Terminator Salvation, in that it never quite ties in with the feel and plot of it's predecessors. This is not on a par with Alien or Aliens. What it does boast is some excellent performances and breathtaking visuals. And that's why it's getting a generous 8/10

DonkeyB: Its boring. I mean really boring. Predictable, sub 2001 nonsense. Pretentious. It's possible that George Lucas was a script consultant. 4/10

Haywire

SF: Such a slow movie so don't expect constant action. All kudos to Gina Carano, I would not mess with her. The fights were nicely pulled off and the plot simple to follow but this left me with the same feelings as Hanna, a shoulder shrug and its alright. It might grow on me. 6.5/10

50 Eggs: Weird film. The lead actress is sexy and obviously talented, but the story is slow and some of the editing choices left me scratching my head. Music being played over and above sound affects, for example, just helped to keep me removed from what was going on. 4/10

DonkeyB: The woman is fit. Accurate fights, diverting. 7/10

Overall: 5.75/10

X-men: First Class

SF: Why! The timeline is soo messed up. I tried to tell myself it's a parallel world but the more I think of it the more I loathe it. 4/10

50 Eggs: Awesome. Good story, good performances and brilliant set pieces. Time lines are always messed up in comics (ahem) so that didn't bother me in the slightest. 9/10

DonkeyB: January Jones is NOT sexy in this film. That is kind of a problem plotwise. Don't even get me started on the whole Cuban missile crisis thing. Why is Captain America ok to mess with history and this isn't? Oh, yeah sorry short reviews. I was bored the arse off as well. 3/10

Overall - 5.3/10
